#WHYUS Campaign and ALBINISM THE PLAY
#WHYUS
#WHYUS is an initiative for people living with Albinism. They have since started a play called “ALBINO THE MUSICAL”.
They started a company 4 years ago named HOPE NPC which is a NGO which has since focused most of their energy on homes of safety and campaigns around drug abuse. In 2015, they resided in KZN and started a partnership with a gentlemen called SCELO MFEKO who has been involved in theater and casting of actors for SABC dramas. After a few meetings and agreements, they formed a partnership which sees EMZINI ARTS MUSICAL THEATRE as thier first project under HOPE NPC.
They both decided to start camps at their venue KINGS (Durban, KZN). They rent out KINGS for events and rehearsals because of their love for arts (drama, poetry, music and dance). They both came up with a play which is aimed at educating people and communities about people living with ALBINISM as well as the discrimination, abductions and senseless killings. The play was created because of myths that people believe which will make them rich. The play has been received very well since its launch to an extent where they have been offered rehearsal space at THE PLAY HOUSE (MID CITY Durban, KZN) after months of cold weather and rehearsing on concrete at KINGS.
They have produced a very special 1 hour 45 minutes play that touches souls and hits home because of the silence they have had around the issue of people living with ALBINISM as they are being considered disabled at schools and tertiary institutions. The play will be taken around higher primary schools in KZN / GAUTENG where they will also be accompanied by representatives from Albinism organisations and students living with ALBINISM. The representatives from Albinism organisations and students living with ALBINISM will be taking part in the play and will be helping with workshops around the ALBINISM stigma.
They have just started a campaign called #WhyUS and they are hoping to launch it as soon as possible in Gauteng. #WhyUS is a campaign aimed at fighting against the discrimination of people living with ALBINISM in society and to also create platforms for them to be able to engage on all aspects of life and issues related to ALBINISM.
#WHYUS also aims to create sustainable opportunities to be able to motivate people living with ALBINISM to be a part of everyday living and to partake in all activities where everyone one is a part of in society e.g. Sports, arts, technology, fashion, extreme adventures, etc. The matter of ALBINISM has been kept silent for a very long time and it is time for us to stand up and fight with our fellow brothers and sisters because they have a right as human beings like us.
They have formed a partnership with UKZN and are in a process of creating programmes that will see them exposing kids from rural schools that live with ALBINISM to tertiary life. Most of the students with ALBANISM go back into the cocoons at tertiary level because of the exposure to different people that have different views about them. The programme aims to rehabilitate students with ALBANISM to fit in to everyday life.
The campaign will be running simultaneously in Tanzania and Congo as partners in the media industry have been found in Congo. In Tanzania, the campaign will be spearheaded by Latifa Mussa, aka MiSs Kk, who is an artist and a social lite in Tanzania.
They are also shooting a documentary / commercial add for social networks because they believe that through social networks, they can reach people both locally and globally. They will also be on radio and television shows to spread the gospel. Since they have started with UKZN, the trend will continue as they were invited by the UNIVERSITY of PRETORIA to also start the campaign there. This was because of a large number of people living with ALBINISM are from Limpopo and Mpumalanga and are currently studying at the institution as well the TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY.
